Do You Binge Read?

I want to know what you all think of binge reading? Do you do it? Or do you enjoy reading books as they come out?

I am one of those people who get the most out of binge reading an entire series. I feel like I enjoy it a lot more if I do because I can remember everything about the previous book in the series and feel much more connected to the characters. But waiting years for a series to be entirely published is so difficult. Not that I don’t have enough to read right now because I do, but there are some pretty fantastic sounding books just coming out that I am eager to read.

I’m just now enjoying the Lunar Chronicles since they are all published, but I feel like everyone has forgotten

about them by now. All the hype has died down and people are not as eager to read reviews anymore.

I feel like I am missing out on the anticipation and excitement of awaiting the next book in a series. So many people are excited about newly released books and I’m just not quite as ecstatic, but I really want to be.

I don’t think I would enjoy having to re-read the previous book before the new one comes out. Knowing the overall plot would make it uninteresting, but I would have to in order to remember the finer details to enjoy the next book. I also have little time to read as it is, so I would much prefer reading something new.

I want to know what you do? Do you binge read or just prefer reading books as they come out?

  1. For the most part, I am a backlist reader. And like you, I prefer to binge read series, straight through – or read through a series maybe taking 1 or 2 books off in-between. I know that feeling of being left out, so the best thing I found, is to start the series slight before the last book is released. Sure you might have missed the hype with books 1 or 2, but if you finish those a couple month before the final book comes out, so people may still be catching up, all the details should be fresh within your mind, and then you can go pick up (or request) the new book and be ready to discuss with everyone else at the same time. 🙂
