Year in Review

My 2019 Favorites!

Well, its been awhile since I have posted anything but I’m back! I hope to publish two or so new things each month and my reviews won’t quite be so in-depth anymore. It will be more of my favorite reads for the month and which books I highly recommend that you read. I will also be posting some anticipated releases for the year and some book hauls or library finds as well. I also have an exciting new bookish planner to share with you all. I just started using it and am loving it!

Since I have been super busy with life and kids I haven’t had quite as much time to read as I would like, so I ended up only reading 24 books in 2019 however that amounts to just over 10,000 pages, which I thought was pretty decent. In 2019, I discovered two new favorite series that have been completed and one that currently has two of four (I believe) books published. Without further ado…

The Nevernight Cronicle by Jay Kristoff

The Nevernight Chronicle follows Mia Corvere, a young girl who joins a school for assassins (yes, a school for assassins and its fucking awesome) in order to avenge the deaths of her parents. After the first two chapters or so of the first book I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I was so glad I did not have to wait for the rest of the books to be published! Seriously, this series will be one of your all time favorites. There is intrigue, betrayal, blood, magic, love, and oh so much more. And just look at those covers! They are seriously gorgeous! How can you not want to read them? I totally wished I had bought these as I was reading them because I really need these for my shelves.

These are all 5 star reads for me!

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

I LOVE Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles so I knew I had to read this series too and it didn’t disappoint. So, the Renegades are prodigies or essentially people with superpowers who serve and protect others. However, there are others with abilities who are considered villains and one in particular, Nova, is set on vengeance against the Renegades for not being there when she needed them the most. She will do whatever it takes to bring the Renegades down even if it means becoming one of them. There is much more to the series but I don’t want to give anything away.

Again, these are all 5 star reads!

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

The Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson is incredible just like every other one of his books. So I’m just going to say “READ IT NOW”. At this time I have only finished book one and am halfway through book two. It is supposed to be a four book series and I cannot wait to see how this ends! It’s absolutely brilliant.

Essentially, the remnants of the human race have been trapped on a planet called Detritus and it is constantly being attacked by some alien race. Human pilots are sent out to defend the planet and destroy the enemy ships. Spensa, a young girl, destines to be one of these pilots just like her father was before her. After uncovering the remains of a long forgotten ship she just may become one of the greatest pilots ever known and the key to saving her people and uncovering so much that it turns her world upside down.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill

This was the one stand-alone book that I thoroughly enjoyed in 2019. It is a children’s or middle grade fantasy book about a girl who was sacrificed to a witch by a town in hopes that it will keep her away. However, there is so much more to this book; it is incredibly entertaining and the twist was awesome. This is definitely a quick, easy, funny, and engaging read for anyone who likes middle grade fantasy.

  1. I really want to read the Renegades! I love the Lunar Chronicles and Heartless. So far, none of Marissa Meyer’s books have disappointed. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Renegades series, so it’s wonderful to hear your affirm that it’s pretty great!

      1. I agree! It’s her weakest book so far, but she’s still one of the stronger YA authors I’ve come across in recent years.

  2. I still need to read the Nevernight series. I’ve heard nothing but great things, and your review on it makes me even more excited to get to it. Thanks for the shoutout and happy new year!

  3. Thanks for the shoutout! I really need to read Godsgrave now after your glowing review 😄 I’m glad you enjoyed Renegades, that’s another series that I desperately want to read 🙂
